Waveconn, an independent Australian digital infrastructure owner and operator, has been awarded funding under the Australian Government’s Peri-Urban Mobile Program (PUMP).
The funding awarded to Waveconn will support improved mobile connectivity and quality of service through the development of 27 new mobile sites across Hobart, Adelaide, Ballarat, Melbourne, Wollongong, Sydney, the Central Coast, Newcastle, Tweed Heads, the Gold Coast, Brisbane, and Cairns.
Waveconn’s team has extensive experience in deploying new digital infrastructure and has partnered with TPG Telecom and Optus to expand mobile connectivity in these critical areas of population expansion. All funded sites will be designed and built to enable shared use by multiple mobile operators.
Waveconn takes a proactive approach to acquiring sites in growth areas around Australia in support of future customer demand. The majority of the 27 sites supported by PUMP funding have already been acquired, meaning deployment can be accelerated and the benefit to these communities realised faster.
Grant Stevenson, CEO of Waveconn said:
“We are excited to be playing an important role in improving mobile connectivity for growing communities in the urban fringes in our capital cities and regional centres. All Australians deserve high-quality mobile reception, particularly in times of emergency.
Waveconn’s independence and focus on shared mobile infrastructure supports the Federal Government’s goal of delivering reliable and competitive digital connectivity and maximising the impact of this investment for all Australian mobile users.
The PUMP program reflects the importance of close cooperation between government, infrastructure operators such as Waveconn, and mobile operators to continue to enhance Australia’s telecommunications services.”
